On abstraction

techniques

I started a new creative series, during a travel in the Nordic European countries. I resumed a habit I had more than 15 years ago, of taking abstract photographs outdoor and during travel.

I love the many ways we can use to achieve abstraction, and already within this series I have found sub topics.

Architecture:

Graphic layout:

Light and shadow:

Travel:

Selecting and enhancing one abstract element is, during photography, achieved by subtraction.
This is a way of composition different respect to the other method I use, during indoor staged photography, where composition is achieved by addition.

I have now three different social channels dedicated to each of the following creative topics:

Instagram @thecultofquilt – quilting and staged photography

Instagram @the_cult_of_ink – drawing

BlueSky @thecultofdaylight – abstract and travel photography

I work across many mediums: quilting, drawing, photography. I feel that there is a strong connection between the three mediums, and what I practice in one medium influences my way of working with another one.
